It was 13 degrees when we left the house and headed up to Mt. Baker and Mt. Shuksan again. The roads were patchy snow and ice for the most part. As we went through Bellingham, the road were very snowy and all churned up from tire chains. However, as we started up the mountain, the roads were great....they were so well de-iced and maintained all the way to the Mt. Baker Ski Resort.
As we reach Mt. Shuksan, it was pretty much clouded over, but the clouds were trying to dissapate. It was still a beautiful sight.
There were dark clouds over most of the horizon, but sun was trying to peak through several holes in the clouds. The ski resort was very busy, despite the temperature of 5 degrees.
We waited around for about an hour and a half, and were finally rewarded for our patience. The mountain emerged from the clouds, with only 20 minutes of light left, but it was worth the wait. I don't think I ever get tired of looking at Mt. Shuksan. It is one of the most beautiful and majestic mountains I've ever seen. Everytime we go up there, it looks different, with a different mood.
As we drove home, the road down the mountain was fine, but the regular highways were icy and very foggy. By the time we got to Stanwood, and were crossing the bridge to the island, it was 2 degrees. Even though it was extremely cold, it was so beautiful.
This is the calm before the storm however........we are supposed to have more snow, freezing rain, and sustained winds of 70 mph with gusts up to 90 mph. We stopped at the grocery store on the way home last night, and stocked up the cupboards. We filled all the empty pots and pans in the house with water, in case the power goes out and the well won't work. Now it's time to snuggle in for a long winter's nap, and try to stay warm!

Well, it's about 75 here today, sunny and calm. Let us know if you want to escape the blizzard and come visit! Beautiful pictures!
It's actually fun being snowed in....makes you slow down and stop rushing through life. Besides, it just doesn't feel like Christmas if it's 75 degrees! I'll take the snow! Someday we should plan a Christmas when everyone can be there...somewhere where we can rent some snowmobiles and ski!
